While custom made draperies are absolutely lovely, they do come with a hefty price tag so when you are in the market for draperies for less, consider the following options.
Check for Cancelled Orders
Stores that offer customized drapery services inevitably have occasions when the drapes are not picked up. They may be the wrong size or the wrong color for the original customer or not picked up for a variety of reasons but this situation could work in your favor. Typically, you will have to ask so look for stores in your area that offer customized drapes and just ask. You never know when you might hit the jackpot.
Consignment Stores
Consignment stores offer quality furniture and goods from people who don’t want to take the time or trouble to sell them on their own. Then, when the goods are sold, the store takes a cut and the seller gets the rest. Most consignment stores are pretty picky about what they will take in and most won’t accept furniture or goods from homes that have been smoked in. The goods have to be in good condition, look nice, and free from odor. This could be a great way for you to get quality draperies for a fraction of the cost of new ones. Check with the consignment stores in your area to see if they have any drapes. If they don’t or don’t have the kind you need, as long as you’re not in a hurry, you can ask them if they will take your number and call you if they get the kind of draperies in that you are in the market for. Most of the time, they will be more than willing to do this since they are in the business to make sales.
Thrift Stores
The quality of the goods in thrift stores vary widely but if you are willing to poke around a little, you have a good chance of finding drapes that you can use. Many people who can afford to update the looks of their homes on an ongoing basis and donate their old draperies to thrift stores. Some of the time, these draperies actually have a lot of life in them. Remember, too, that many businesses use formal draperies that are truly beautiful and they update on a regular basis as well. Therefore, keep thrift stores in mind when looking for a bargain on draperies.
