Types of Awnings
from:Awnings are designed primarily to protect you from the heat and glare of the sun. In addition, awnings can greatly improve the look of the outside of your home. Awnings can make it possible for you to enjoy an outside area, such as a deck or patio that you previously stayed away from because of the sun. We’ll take a brief look here at the various types of awnings so you can get an idea of the kind of awning that might be right for you and your home.
Retractable Awnings
Retractable awnings are the grandest of all awnings and are great for covering patios and decks. These awnings are attached to the outside of your home and provide shade not only for the outside area, but they can also prevent your furniture and carpets on the inside of the home from fading. Retractable awnings can go a long way toward reducing the overall heat inside your home as well as providing a comfortable place to gather outside your home. Retractable awnings allow you to easily customize the amount of sun you want at any given time as you can easily fold them back when desired.
Stationary Awnings
Stationary awnings provide the same amount of protection that retractable awnings do, only they are not adjustable. For this reason, when you opt for a stationary awning, you want to make sure you are getting the right size that will offer you the amount of protection you need as you will not be able to extend the awning the way you can with a retractable awning.
Freestanding Awnings
Freestanding awnings are just like they sound – freestanding. They are not attached to your home or any building. They still provide excellent shelter for garden areas or areas in which you would like to set up a patio or picnic area. Some freestanding awnings have special features like canopies that tilt back and forth so you can have the protection you need at any time of the day. As the sun shifts, so can the protection the awning provides.
Motorized Retractable Awnings
While the basic retractable awning comes with a manual pull, motorized retractable awnings offer far more advantages. With the motorized awning, you can use a remote control and/or a wall switch to control your retractable awning. You can also get retractable awnings with wind and rain sensors so that they will fold up when the weather gets bad.
